History of National Barbie Day
The creator and the reason behind the creation of National Barbie Day are unidentified. It is believed to be celebrated because the day is also Barbie’s official birthday. The Barbie doll made its appearance at the American International Toy Fair in New York in 1959. Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, and she was created by Ruth Handler, an American businesswoman who used a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. Ken Carson, Barbie’s boyfriend, was introduced by Mattel in 1961. Ruth Handler was the wife of Elliot, the co-founder of the toy giant Mattel, Inc. Later barbies have gone through many changes, evolution and controversies.
